Researchers know how a bicycle works

September 24, 2007

Researchers think they have for the first time worked out how bicycles work.

I wonder if this will indeed result in some different bicycle designs for the UCI to ban?

  1. It will undoubtedly result in some new designs which are deemed too dangerous for policemen to ride….,,2-2007440374,00.html

  2. By the way, I saw my first "lefty fork" bike yesterday. That’s going to upset somebody’s mathematical modelling! (I think it was a Cannondale Prophet, or similar.) Have you ridden one?

  3. You think a single fork is a bad idea on a road bike?
You should see the Cannondale downhill bikes with a single fork design, suspension at the point where the fork enters the steerer tube… It’s unbelievable, I’ve never ridden one of those as I feel a little too attached to mortality.

  4. I never had you down as a Sun Reader!
Thanks for that it sums up how the Police really don’t understand cycling.
I assume you mean a bike with a mono-fork, I rode one and for a mountain bike it seemed o.k. but I failed to see the point. It was not lighter, it was not cheaper and I never really felt confident it was not all going to end in tears.

  7. Thanks, I’ve fixed that.
That should teach me to try and write HTML….
