This neatly illustrates why I don’t use bike lanes and why I don’t think they will every work.

  1. Looks like the roundabout just north of Teddington Station.
    And yes, it’s a poor cycle path for a number of reasons even when that road sign isn’t there. For one, it rejoins the road just after the roundabout exit – vehicles leaving the roundabout are likely to be surprised by cyclists negotiating the sharp right/give way/left required to get back on the road to avoid breaking the law by riding on the pavement.
    I usually assume the primary riding position (cf. Cyclecraft) and use the road all the way through.
