Fixers in San Francisco

October 3, 2006

As CEC is in downtown San Francisco I have had the pleasure of walking through the streets from location to location and have been struck by the number of bikes here. Specifically the number of fixers that are ridden. These tend to be ultra light weight machines which stick to the minimalist routes of a fixed wheel bike and have just one, or in some cases no brake, instead relying on the braking you get from your lets. I’ve not seen any of them trying to go up any of the more severe hills or for that matter try to come down one.

Next year I think if I have bought my Brompton I’ll bring it for a round the town sight seeing tour. That is of course if CEC is in a town.
