More nvidia drivers on the tecra M2

July 6, 2005

Since I am now getting email about how to get the nvidia driver working on the M2, which is great, here are some things to try if they don’t work for you. Note my prompt is “: principia TS X $: ” in the examples, where X is a number. What I type is in italics.

Check your path_to_inst file has an entry for the device:

: principia TS 4 $; egrep nvidia /etc/path_to_inst “/pci@0,0/pci8086,3341@1/display@0” 0 “nvidia” : principia TS 5 $;

Make sure the device links have been created, they should be created for you:

 : principia TS 5 $; ls -l /dev/fbs total 6 lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root          54 Jun  7 15:16 nvidia0 -> ../../devices/pci@0,0/pci8086,3341@1/display@0:nvidia0 lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root          53 Feb 22 15:03 text-0 -> ../../devices/pci@0,0/pci8086,3341@1/display@0:text-0 : principia TS 6 $;

Then make sure the actual device nodes exist:

 : principia TS 6 $; ls -l /devices/pci@0,0/pci8086,3341@1/display@0:nvidia0 crw——-   1 cg13442  staff    186,  0 Jun  7 15:16 /devices/pci@0,0/pci8086,3341@1/display@0:nvidia0 : principia TS 7 $;

Still not working? Check you ran the update_drv correctly by running this:

 : principia TS 3 $; nawk ‘”nvidia” == $1 && $2 == “\”pci10de,328\”” { print $0 }’ /etc/driver_aliases nvidia “pci10de,328” : principia TS 4 $;

If you get no output to the nawk then you messed up the update_drv and need to find the real entry remove it with update_drv and re add it correctly. Then boot -r.
