nvidia drivers on a Toshiba Tecra M2

June 7, 2005

Following on from Alan’s blog about installing the nvidia driver to support an unsupported card. The bit he left as an exercise for the reader is to update the “/etc/driver_aliases” file. Well to do this you need to run update_drv like this (for the GeForce FX Go5200 32M/64M that is in the Toshiba Tecra M2 that is currently warming my legs)

 # update_drv -a -i ‘"pci10de,328"’ nvidia #

After installing the packages. Now follow the rest of the instructions from the README on the nvidia web page. Don’t forget the "boot -r", as I did, as that will lead to a world of hurt. You will know when you have this right as you get the nvidia splash screen when the X server starts.
